As a journalist for Queelife, I recently had the privilege of interviewing Jamie Fine, a Canadian musician whose impact extends far beyond her homeland. Our
conversation delved into Jamie’s dual influence as an artist and an LGBTQ+ icon.She shared insights on her global fanbase, particularly in South Africa, where her music has fostered a sense of belonging and inspiration. Her fans in South Africa resonate deeply with her work, finding in her music a voice that echoes their own experiences and struggles. Jamie’s journey, characterised by both artistic excellence and personal authenticity, illuminates her role not just as a musician, but as a beacon for the LGBTQ+ community worldwide. I can safely say the South African community love Jamie and her music.
Jamie, is a singer-songwriter from Ottawa, Canada has made significant waves in the music industry as both a member of the duo Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine and as a solo artist. This duo, formed in early 2014, first caught the public eye as winners of the Canadian reality music competition “The Launch” in 2018. Their single “Ain’t Easy” achieved tremendous success, peaking at #38 on the Canadian Hot 100 and achieving Double Platinum status by Music Canada. Their EP, 8:47, showcased their unique electropop style and garnered wide acclaim.
After their split in 2020, Jamie embarked on a solo career, debuting with the emotionally charged single “Sellout”. She signed with Universal Music Canada in 2022, releasing her six-track EP “eight gardengate” which features a blend of pop, pop-soul, and new wave genres. Her single “If Anything’s Left” marked her return to the Canadian Hot 100 in April 2023, evidencing her persistent influence in the music scene. Her remarkable influence in the South African music scene is evident with her single “If Anything’s Left” achieving Platinum status in the country. This accomplishment highlights the universal appeal of her music and underscores how her artistry transcends geographical boundaries. It’s a testament to Jamie’s talent and the deep connection her songs forge with audiences, further cementing her status as a globally celebrated artist and as a Queerlife star.
Jamie has an exciting tour lined up for her fans in South Africa. The tour will kick off on 27th April in Johannesburg at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens. This will be followed by a performance in Kimberley at the KRC Rugbyveld on 30th April. On 1st May, she’ll be enchanting her fans in Nelspruit at the Botanical Gardens. The tour will culminate in a spectacular show in Cape Town at GrandWest on 4th May. This tour marks a significant milestone in Jamie’s career, further solidifying her global appeal and influence.
