The 2020 Audi A5 QUATTRO is as delicious as a pancake with syrup on a cold and frosty morning

Audi has achieved the perfect balance of class and elegance, as well as technology and safety. All of this is hidden beneath a veneer of restrained respectability. I say veneer because you won’t be spinning wheels in yobbo-infused fog, but you’ll still hit 100 miles per hour in 6.5 seconds.

What distinguishes the A5 Cabriolet as a True GT?

Grand tourers transported gentlemen over long distances in style.

There was frequently no roof, and gloved hands gripped steering wheels in a haze of booze. Luggage would be tethered to the back, and running boards would transport tools needed for quick repairs.

Massive engines belched out fumes, achieving little more than 10 miles per gallon.

Those halcyon days may appear to be capped and goggled perfection, but roads were unpaved, and you wore thick coats to protect yourself from the elements. Biting winds, choking dust, and drenching rain caused passengers, including women, to have hair on their chests.

What a difference a generation makes.

The A5 Cabriolet does not require a ball-busting powertrain. Its 2.0L turbo petrol engine is as smooth as a fine Swiss watch. Vibration is all but extinct.

What has changed on the outside?

The body is slender and seductive. The 2020 model has received minor cosmetic enhancements here and there. The grille has been subtly modified, and it is now flanked by a sharp pair of fully automatic LED Matrix headlights. They illuminate the road ahead with the most romantic moonlight. Anyone approaching it is politely placed in pools of dimmed light.

You can drive wherever you want, whenever you want, and as fast as you want.

The less fortunate will notice a new set of tail lights with gentle sweeping indicators as they follow you. As you pass, the massive 19″ wheels make the body appear even longer than it is. Tyres are nothing more than a smear of rubber on the alloys. The A5 Cabriolet appears to be running on the rims as it moves. The effect is hypnotic.

It would be remiss of me to proceed inside without mentioning the absolutely stunning rag top.

The A5 Cabriolet has kept the mohair look throughout its life and is all the more elegant for it. When the button is pressed, the glass window in the back swings upwards. The deck lid hinges back, and the roof performs a beautiful ballet before the decklid gracefully returns to its original position. Meanwhile, the windows, which had dropped slightly, rose in a well-choreographed dénouement.

The delectable exterior is neither precocious nor startling.
